The team of Sacred Queer Stories is incredibly saddened about the death of Francis Edna. Early in the morning of Monday 14 November, their bruised and bloodied body was found on a road in Kampala, Uganda, having been attacked and beaten to death.

As a member of the community of LGBTI refugees, Francis was one of the participants in our project and contributed to the production of the drama film “Jesus and the Guys Charged with Indecency”, which is a creative retelling of the biblical story about Jesus and the woman known as being “caught in adultery”. At the launch of our book Sacred Queer Stories: Ugandan LGBTQ+ Refugees and the Bible, on 14 February 2022 at The Nature Network in Nairobi, Kenya, Francis offered a beautiful performance of “Amazing Grace” that left everyone in tears.

Incredibly talented, Francis was dreaming of a career as a performer and singer. They took great care of their body and appearance and moved through this world with charm and a beautiful smile. We can’t believe that Francis is no longer with us. We pray for strength for everyone close to them. May they rest in peace and rise in power.
